HOPE Talk

I got the email today from the HOPE Committee confirming the day and time of my talk. I’ll wait until they announce the specifics on their site (https://www.hope.net) before I say anything, in case there’s a last minute adjustment.

I have not been to HOPE since 1997. Went with a few members of the Guild. I don’t remember much in the way of talks. I do remember the venue was humid as fuck, and I spent most of the conference in the nice air-conditioned volunteer’s break-room in between helping out at the conference. In 1994 when I wasn’t presenting my talk on pagers I was mostly stuck behind a table for most of the conference at the communications monitoring demonstration table with Bernie S. and the dude who wrote the Scan*Star software.

This is the first time I’m not going to be doing anything other than giving a talk. I see a lot radio-related talks listed, which I think is pretty cool, and I hope to take in as many as possible. No word so far on workshops, demos, or vendors. In 1994 or 1997, I forget which one, there was a dude selling NSA swag. I bought a baseball cap from him with the NSA logo on it. I had since misplaced it, so I’m hoping there’s a vendor there with them, or something similarly cool.

It’s been almost 30 years since I attended HOPE, and I’m looking forward to seeing what it’s like now.
